Holiday Discussions

12/2/2009

Holidays are usually wonderful times for family and friends to get together. It is a time to eat, to visit, to reminisce. These gatherings can also be wonderful times to talk about what is important to you, what you believe in, what hopes you have for your life. The CARE Coalition encourages you to take some of this conversation time to share your thoughts and beliefs about the health care you would want to receive if needed. When everyone is together, it is the most effective time to share your thoughts and wishes, to write up your advance directives. Make it a family affair-everyone over the age of 18 should really have advance directives signed. Discussing these issues all together allows everyone to share their particular hopes and dreams and wishes. CARE Coalition members recommend using the Power of Attorney for Health Care form for your state. It is a much more powerful, flexible document when compared to a Living Will. Use our Frequently Asked Questions page and download helpful documents to assist in your family discussions over the holiday season.
